Sobre el Gmail en català

Google és una de les poques empreses que tracta relativament bé la llengua catalana, i per això hem d’estar molt agraïts. Sense cap mena de dubte.
Però, de totes maneres, m’agradaria fer un petit comentari sobre la traducció catalana del Gmail.
Aquest és el menú del Gmail en català:
El primer que sobta és la llargada del menú, sobretot si es compara amb la versió anglesa:
Un altre exemple d’excés de longitud de la versió catalana és el següent botó:
Fa mitja pantalla!
No es pot simplificar tot això?

Del botó llarg jo hi treuria la paraula “correu” que és completament redundant, ja sabem que el Gmail tracta correu, així que jo hi posaria “Marca-ho com a brossa”.
iPhone

No sóc un fan de l’iPhone, pel simple fet que és un “phone” i només es vendrà en acord amb dinousaures telefònics (telefòniques).
Però després de veure els anuncis que m’ha enviat n’Oscar, estic convençut de que es tracta d’un molt bon producte, perquè, mireu-los bé, són dels pocs anuncis que no han de menester d’apel·lar a metàfores estranyes per vendre un producte, simplement mostren les característiques del que es vol vendre, i això, encara que sembli mentida, és excepcional.
Integrate the text editor of your choice in Firefox or Thunderbird

In one of his posts, Tsuguya Sasaki writes:
I don’t trust the computer literacy of anyone who neither has his or her favorite text editor nor knows how to use it with a keyboard and keyboard shortcuts
When using computers, basically we deal with text. This is why the keyboard remains the most important data entry system of our computers.
And to do all this, it is more efficient to use a fully featured editor, like vim (it is my choice), emacs, texmaker or [put your preferred fully featured editor here] than the poor editors of, for example, our webrowsers or mailers.
The problem is that most applications implement their own editor. Why should I write e-mails in Thunderbird‘s poorly featured editor if I could use vim? Thunderbird was made to manage e-mail, vim to write text, why should Thunderbird want to do vim’s job?
Fortunatelly there is an extension, that works on almost every mozilla application (Firefox, Thunderbird,…), which allows us to edit the text of any form with any editor in a transparent and practical manner. It is called, ViewSourceWith.
So, now, I can write all my e-mails (from Gmail) with vim, and I write the posts of this blog, also with vim. I only have to press CTRL-SHIFT-U and the editor appears! It’s almost magic. It’s clean. It makes me more productive! And, last but not least, it continues the good Unix tradition of integrating applications that do one job very well.

How Google could build its Twitter

For Google, it would be very easy to create its Twitter.
User’s are already updating their Google Talk statuses.
Setting up a web page that shows the history of these statuses, would be easy. Showing up the friends’ statutes would also be easy, because Google already knows who are my friends, they are in my contact list.
Integrating SMS shouldn’t be difficult neither.
The good point of a service of this kind is that I shouldn’t explain to my friends what Twitter is, because they already use Google Talk and they already update their Google Talk status.
Google Talk engineers, that would be cool!

La terreur monte dans la capitale somalienne
Le dimanche 3 juin, le Premier ministre somalien Ali Mohammed Gedi a échappé à un attentat visant sa résidence à Modagiscio. L’attaque a fait sept victimes parmi les soldats en charge de sa surveillance. Par ailleurs, le quotidien kényan annonce que le même jour, un raid américain a tué sept terroristes, originaires des Etats-Unis, du Royaume-uni, de Suède, du Maroc, du Yémen et du Pakistan. Il s’agirait de combattants d’une cellule d’Al-Qaida arrivés depuis plusieurs mois en Somalie.

El conflicte de Somàlia era local. L’entrada de les forces etíopes ha motivat l’internacionalització del conflicte. Ara, amb la presència de combatents estrangers, Somàlia esdevé una peça més de la guerra de guerrilles global.
Els estats no entenen que el conflicte mundial actual és com la picor d’una al·lèrgia, com més et fregues, més mal tens. Cada moviment per defensar la seguretat dels estats, fractalitza i dinamitza més l’enemic, les guerrilles globals.
Ho arribaran a entendre?
