Els que no volen que Turquia formi part de la Unió europea diuen que és perquè aquest país no compleix els requisits d’una democràcia sana. Si aquest fos el vertader motiu del seu rebuig tindrien raó i s’escandalitzarien amb notícies com aquestes que no semblen venir d’una democràcia homologable:

Però, ni s’escandalitzen amb aquestes notícies, ni posaran pegues a l’entrada de certs estats balcànics que encara no són una democràcia homologable. Ser cristià dóna certs avantatges? El mar de Màrmara és més frontera que els Pirineus? On és Xipre, a Europa o a Àsia? No era Roma un imperi europeu, asiàtic i africà? L’Imperi otomà no ha canviat Europa? Els albanesos són musulmans! La BBC posa les notícies de Georgia a la secció “Europa”. No trobeu que per aquest camí ens perdrem?

Europa és democràcia, llibertat i estat del benestar. Tan complicat és entendre-ho?
